When I think C-scripture I think Hip-Hop, Honesty, heart and skill, those are the qualities I have learnt to expect from the EphSix11 representative. First time I really took note of C-Scripture was when he dropped ‘just to let you know’, I fell in love with his music, it is simply put real music for real people. My favourite songs from Just to let you know are/were just to let you know and twilight somehow I was convinced that the young rapper will never make songs I would love as much as these two.
With better days, he definitely proved me wrong; needless to say the song will be stuck on my playlist for a while. First time I saw the lyrics to better days, I was like whoa this is going to be some heavy song, I expected lots of shouting and angry type of tone. But to my surprise it has a really laid back vibe which for me shows a lot of growth in the artist and person that is C-Scripture. This also helps the listener concentrate on the content of the song and above all it puts in place the message the song is trying to put across.
For a lot of us it feels so good just to sulk and complain about our lives without looking at the cross but C-Scripture doesn’t just share his heart and feelings with his listeners but also offers them his view to these problems as he puts it “Hebrews 11:6 I take faith even as I write this”.
If you have been broken, depressed and in a bad place in need of someone, this is your song. No, this is our song; we are all broken in our own ways no such thing as perfect people, the challenge is to hold on to the faith in Christ. C-Scripture ends the last verse with a question and where I believe his heart is at, “despite the pain and shame in this earth I faced/I still have my faith in God now listen when I ask you/ what about you?”
I called this review an oasis in the desert story because there is light at the end of the tunnel or rather there is light in the tunnel, the oasis in the desert that has always been there and that is God. “I’m frustrated to the point of death, can anybody hear me? / It feels like I’m stuck in an oasis of broken hope”. Even in our darkest moments like this God is there; ready to give us a better day.
Dear reader, don’t sleep on this joint; it might be just what you need today.
